Youth of the Year

<Back to Programs

Throughout each year, Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee conducts a “Youth of the Year” Program in our Clubs culminating into a spring awards dinner that is also a major fundraising event for our Clubs.

The Youth of the Year program benefits our Club members by helping them:
  • develop healthy attitudes toward home, community, school and Club
  • recognize the importance of patriotism and good character and demonstrate it in all aspects of their daily lives
  • strengthen their moral values
  • build a positive self-concept
  • achieve personal growth
  • improve writing, listening and speaking skills
  • identify with positive role models
  • develop leadership skills

In order to select a Youth of the Year, each Club unit names a Youth of the Month each month that exemplifies Youth of the Year characteristics.  Judging to select the winner takes place in February and the finalists are honored at the spring awards dinner.

BGCMT is honored to host this ever-growing awards dinner!  An audience of up to 600 gathers for an auction, musical performance (previously a speaker) and a special segment highlighting the accomplishments of the young people attending the four Club sites in our community.

During the program, each finalist is introduced and rewarded with items such as a new laptop computer.  In a most gratifying moment, our Youth of the Year Winner will receive an award and $2,500 college scholarship and will offer personal acceptance remarks.

Past speakers include Hank Aaron, Archie Manning, Peyton Manning, Steve McNair, and Kyle Vanden Bosch among others. In 2004, 2007 and 2008, the Middle Tennessee Youth of the Year has gone on to win the TN state title and has competed in the Boys & Girls Clubs of America regional finals.
